'Spontaneous Communities' is an ambitious engagement programme for Norfolk & Norwich Festival. Five community groups will collaborate through the year with regional artists to research ideas, concerns and questions triggered by the Spontaneous City sculptures at NNF11, then they'll create new work for NNF12. Created by artists London Fieldworks and sited at Eaton Park, Waterloo Park and Cow Tower in Norwich, the sculptures draw on the ecology and biodiversity of their settings.

Hamlet Centre
Me and georgie had our first visit to the Hamlet Centre on 13th September. Took a long while to arrange the meeting but we finally got there. We will not actually be starting the project until January due to the nature of the centre. Was lovely to have a first meeting though and give the staff an idea of our plans. Met a few really enthusiastic staff and they are now off to try and find other adults who attend the hamlet centre who would be interested in joiing the Fields of Practice group. Hopefully we will all get to meet in November.

Looking outwards at Waterloo Park
Drawing Buddies visited Waterloo Park today, after a group critique of the collective drawing that we made last week and discussing how to take it forward, surprising how effortlessly it evolves, the answers are all there in the room. Did some more drawing, but were quickly defeated by the cold. Didn't put boxes on our heads but did take some rapid fire snaps 'looking outwards' from Spontaneous City through circular view finders (what the birds might see) and retreated back to base for tea and quick drawings of architectural features of Phoenix Centre, through circular view finders !
Drawing Buddies at Eaton Park
Eaton Park on 15th September, lots of great unique responses & ideas to this Spontaneous City which, not least led to Eddie & Sheila suggesting that we may like involve their Creative Writing group too. We talked to Maggie their tutor about this and she was very keen, it's a relatively newly formed group (several new members) who are finding their direction but may well like to hook up with us using written responses. We were joined briefly by a group on 'walkabouts' from The Clare School, all generations sharing a lovely moment of art & chat about Spontaneous City. Great, feels as if 'Spontaneous Communities' are forming ! Talking a lot about collections (boxes, people, drawings) and have begun a 'collective' drawing, will see where it goes ? I am enjoying some great "we could do ........." suggestions from the group and Paul, their regular tutor, including Sue's suggestion that we all put boxes on our heads will holes in to get the birds perspective, watch this space.
